How to Install GM Air Deflectors DIY

Annoying wind noise, air resistance, UV glare -- they can all make cruising US-52 around Winston-Salem in, say, that brand-new Chevy Corvette you love a real drag. Luckily, there's an easy way to help cut down on all three -- put on a set of GM air deflectors.

Also called wind deflectors, they work much the same as, on the one hand, sunshades, and on the other, spoilers or air dams. That's thanks to being made of durable acrylic glass, most of the time (the kind you can sometimes even get tinted), and to being mountable on everything from your favorite sports car's windows to its hood and even its sunroof, if you've got one.

Plus, since they're pretty slimline by design, installing a set is a breeze. Here's how for most GM models.

An Easy How-To

It goes like so. Put simply, a lot of the time, all you need to do is slide each air deflector into each of the window channels in your car's door frames (or directly insert it; manufacturer instructions will have the specifics). You'll need:

  • Paper towels
  • A microfiber or another soft, window-friendly cloth
  • Window cleaning spray
  • Window clips (if called for) for fastening the deflectors to the windows
  • Of course, if you're not sure how to go about things, there's an easier way.
