Oil filters prevent particulate matter from entering your vehicle’s engine. Neglecting to change the oil filter allows contamination to build up and flow into the engine. This causes internal wear and tear that shortens an engine’s life. Most oil manufacturers recommend changing the oil filter when you get an oil change - every three months or 3,000 miles, whichever comes first.
