3 Common Buick Enclave Problems and How to Fix Them

Your Enclave is the quintessential luxury mid-size SUV, a perfect blend of performance, style, and affordability, and one only Buick can deliver. It's not without a few issues, though. Luckily, they're pretty easy to catch -- if you know what to look for.

Good thing you came to us here at GM Wholesale Direct about them. Here are three you're most likely to run into -- and what to do if you do.

Failed Transmissions

Enclave models from between 2008 and 2017 with 165,000 miles or fewer have a known issue where reverse stops working right, gears slip, and shifting into third and fifth gears is harsh. Oftentimes, the Check Engine will come on, too, and a code reader or advanced scan tool will read error codes like P0716, P0717, P0776, P0777, P2714, P2715, and P02723. The issue, much of the time: a broken 35R clutch wave plate in the six-speed transmission.

The fix: taking out the gearbox, taking it apart, cleaning out the whole thing, replacing the broken plate, and reinstalling.

Underperforming Engines

Enclave models from between '08 and 2012 with V6 engines and 130,000 miles or fewer can start to have general performance problems. The Check Engine light can come on, and code readers and advanced scan tools can read error codes like P0011, P0014, P0021, P0024, P0336, P0341, P0346, and P0391. The trouble's usually that the powertrain control module (PCM) software needs an update. Get it "flashed" or reprogrammed at a Buick dealer, and you should be good to go.

Otherwise, the problem could be camshaft end play on the cylinder head; that's something that, unless you have the tools and skillset to take care of, you'll have to get fixed at an authorized GM service center.

Faulty Gas Caps

If the Check Engine light on the dash of your Enclave comes on, and you've ruled out other causes, most likely, you've got a loose or worn-out gas cap. It's a known issue on models from 2014 and earlier, with around 160,000 miles or less on them.
