Three Popular Canyon Mods You Can Do for Less than GMC Dealer Prices
Your Canyon is no stranger to hard work -- or harder play. After all, it's a mid-size GMC pickup that's one serious step up from Chevy Colorado.
Want to make the most of the truck's exalted status of towing and hauling machine, though, and you'll either have to cough up at a GMC dealer for a higher trim -- one like AT4X AEV, available for 2024 to the tune of $66,000 plus -- or pay out the nose for a package deal like 2024's Pro Safety or Edition 1.
Do a few key upgrades yourself, though, and you can save a bunch of cash. Shop with us at GM Wholesale Direct for your parts and accessories; they're GMC-quality, and our prices are markdowns. Here's a few projects that make great places to start, using 2024 GMC Canyon as an example.
1. Induction System
Canyon has a turbocharged 2.7-liter, in-line, four-cylinder engine standard for 2024, paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission; it's capable of 310 horsepower and 430 pound-feet of torque. Since that's all you've got to work with -- there's no diesel to spring for and fuel economy isn't all that great compared to the old V6 -- want to get a little more power and efficiency?
Consider upgrading to a supercharger; it'll allow the engine to pull in a ton more air. Then, install a cold air intake and performance air filter; that way, you'll get better-quality air. The result: higher-quality combustion.
2. Suspension
2024 GMC Canyon AT4X costs $56k minimum, and it has only 10.7 inches of ground clearance. You can get a whopping 12.2 inches, but only by forking over that $66k minimum for the AT4X AEV trim. There's an easier (and cheaper) way to get results: lift the pickup truck yourself, by putting in a lift kit and leveling kit, and then, add performance shocks and struts.
Now, you'll not only tower over the terrain. You'll also be able to install bigger off-road tires -- meaning your ride will get better grip when the going gets tough.
3. Towing
2024 Canyon has a max towing capacity of 7,700 pounds, but to take advantage of it, you'll have to have stuck with the Elevation, AT4, or Denali trim. (The rating drops to 6,000 pounds max for AT4X and 5,500 pounds max for AT4X with Edition 1 package, anyway.) Get every single pound out of it -- install towing accessories: a trailer coupler, hitch, ball mount, and ball, for starters. You'll be able to haul just about anything -- a couple dirt bikes, weekend camping gear, an ATV, you name it. And without having to empty your wallet for some trailering package.
